Terms of use
Last updated: 20 October 2026
These additional license terms are an agreement between you and SDRSA for SDR Signal Analyzer. They add to the Microsoft Standard Application License Terms. Where the two conflict, these terms apply, and section 2 below applies in all cases.
1. License
You may install and use the free edition of the app on devices associated with your Microsoft account for personal, non-commercial purposes only — learning and hobby use.
Commercial or official use — including measurements for hire or work for a company, institution or unit — requires a separate SDR SA PRO licence. We send its terms on request.
2. Open-source components — these rights are not restricted
The app includes components under their own open-source licenses, whose texts are installed together with the app (the licenses folders of its installation) and included in the portable build:
- Qt 6, PySide6 / Shiboken6 — GNU LGPL-3.0; third-party code built into the Qt libraries (FreeType, HarfBuzz, zlib, PCRE2, libpng, libjpeg-turbo, Unicode data and others) — under the licenses listed in licenses/third-party/qt-bundled-components.txt;
- Qt's software OpenGL renderer — Mesa 3D (MIT license) with LLVM 3.6.2 (LLVM Release License, BSD-style);
- libusb — GNU LGPL-2.1; libwinpthread — MIT and BSD-3-Clause-Clear;
- libhackrf, NumPy, SciPy (with bundled OpenBLAS, LAPACK, ducc and uarray), PyOpenGL — BSD-style licenses; the GCC runtime library bundled with OpenBLAS — GNU GPL-3.0 with the GCC Runtime Library Exception;
- RTL-SDR driver — ported from the webrtlsdr library, Apache License 2.0, © 2013 Google Inc., © 2024 Jacobo Tarrío Barreiro; the license text is in licenses/third-party/webrtlsdr-LICENSE.txt, the list of changes in licenses/third-party/SOURCES.txt;
- Python — PSF License Agreement, with the licenses of the software incorporated in it (mimalloc, expat, libmpdec, HACL* and others).
Nothing in these terms, or in any other terms under which the app is offered, limits the rights those licenses give you. In particular, for the LGPL-licensed libraries you may modify them, replace them with your own versions, and reverse engineer the app to the extent necessary to debug such modifications.
Inside the installed Microsoft Store package the libraries cannot be replaced, because the package is sealed by its signature. The same version of the app is therefore also built as an open portable package, in which Qt, PySide6, Shiboken6 and libusb are separate, replaceable files.
That portable package, and the source code of the versions of Qt, PySide6, Shiboken6 and libusb used in it, are provided on request by e-mail to support@sdrsa.net, free of charge, for at least three years from the date you obtained the app. State the app version (Help > About) in your request.
3. Radio transmission
With compatible hardware the app can transmit radio signals. You are solely responsible for complying with the radio regulations that apply to you, including holding any required authorisation for the frequencies and power you use. Do not transmit into an antenna without such authorisation; use a dummy load or a shielded setup for testing.
4. Measurements
The app reports levels in dBFS unless you calibrate it. Results are provided for engineering use; verify them before relying on them for safety-critical, legal or contractual decisions.
The EMC weighted detectors (quasi-peak and the others) give a preliminary estimate, not a certification measurement: the resolution bandwidth here is not the one the standard prescribes.
5. No warranty; limitation of liability
The app is provided "as is", without warranties of any kind, to the extent permitted by law. To the extent permitted by law, we are not liable for any indirect, incidental or consequential damages, loss of data, or damage to equipment arising from use of the app.
6. Privacy
The app collects no personal data and makes no network connections. See the privacy policy.
